Michael Stepien, her father, was murdered in Pittsburg hand hewas an organ donor. For a dying man named Arthur Thomas, receiving Stepien’s heart as quickly as possible was truly a matter of life or death. Following a successful transfer, Thomas lived and recovered, and is forever grateful to Stepien, who ultimately saved his life.
Fast-forward 10 years: Stepien’s daughter, Jeni, was in the midst of planning her wedding. Since her beloved father couldn’t be there, she came up with an incredible idea.
Jeni sent a letter to Arthur Thomas, lovingly known as “Tom,” asking him if he would do the honor of walking her down the aisle. The two had never met before, so Jeni took a chance.
Tom said yes. He traveled from New Jersey to walk Jeni down the aisle at St. Anselm Church in Swissvale, PA.
On the night before her wedding, Jeni and Tom met one another for the very first time. It was also the first time she felt her father’s heart beat.
