Ellen Breaks Down when she Heard what this Teacher Did!

When Ellen heard about teacher/humanitarian Sonya Romero, she knew she had to bring her to the show. Sonya is a kindergarten teacher at Lew Wallace Elementary in Albuquerque.
Every day Sonya asks her students every morning is whether or not they have eaten, if they need anything to wear, and if they need to brush their teeth or comb their hair.
With one son of her own, Sonya took in two children who were her former students and needed a home. She’s now their foster mom.
After revealing to Sonya a heartwarming video showing the teachers, staff, and students who know and love Sonya, a teary-eyed Ellen presented Sonya with two $10,000 checks, one made out to Sonya and the other made out to Lew Wallace Elementary. This isn’t the first time Ellen has surprised a deserving mother on her show, and it certainly won’t be the last.
Sonya has had a tremendous impact on her community. Many of her former students still visit her, and some say they want to be just like her when they grow up. They all love her, and she loves them right back.
